Our interprofessional teams include health professionals, educators and<br \/>\nsupport workers representing both traditional Indigenous and contemporary models of care and using<br \/>\nwholistic health and community development concepts.<br \/>\nThe Diabetes Dietitian (RD) works within an interprofessional team comprised of registered and nonregistered healthcare professionals, both directly and under the facilitation of medical directives, and<br \/>\nassists with the development and implementation of a culturally appropriate interprofessional diabetes<br \/>\nstrategy that promotes self-care and is responsive to diverse needs.<br \/>\nThe RD provides assessment, education, nutritional care planning, counseling, and therapeutic support<br \/>\nto facilitate self-care for clients living with diabetes, within the professional scope of practice<br \/>\nestablished by the College of Dietitians of Ontario.<br \/>\nThis position is part of the Ontario Nurses Association Bargaining unit.<br \/>\nNOTE: Traditional practices involving burning sacred medicines including tobacco, sweetgrass, sage<br \/>\nand cedar and other cultural protocols occur regularly within our work setting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>current registration with College of Dietitians of Ontario; certified or eligible for certification as a<br \/>\nCertified Diabetes Educator<\/li>\n<li>willing to work to full scope including performing delegated acts through medical directives<\/li>\n<li>experience working in an Indigenous organization &#8211; ability to understand and speak<br \/>\nAnishinaabemowin a definite asset<\/li>\n<li>demonstrated cultural competencies to fully understand how to direct and facilitate the<br \/>\ndevelopment and implementation of diabetes strategic plan in a culturally appropriate way<\/li>\n<li>experience and demonstrated ability to work within a wholistic care model; able to work<br \/>\nindependently and be an effective team member<\/li>\n<li>willingness and ability to travel.
