Kenora, ON April 24, 2024 – Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe’iyewigamig (WNHAC) is pleased to share that the Minister of Health, the Honourable Sylvia Jones, has approved new funding to strengthen response to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Hepatitis-C Virus (HCV) in Ontario.
Base funding for the HIV/AIDS Program will increase to $382,000 in annualized funding and will allow us to build on, and enhance, HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention activities to our community members. These services are provided through our Health Promoters, in collaboration with our community partners and other members of WNHACs Interprofessional Teams.
WNHAC was also successful in being granted NEW funding for Hep-C programming which is intended to address clinical service gaps and increase access to HIV and Hep-C related treatment and care. Beginning this fiscal year, WNHAC will be receiving $345,000 in annualized funds specifically for a Hep-C program. As one of six new HCV Teams in Ontario, WNHACs Hep-C Initiative will be based with our Outreach Team and will provide education and prevention activities to at-risk populations in Kenora.
Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe’iyewigamig was established in 1998 to provide culturally appropriate, communitybased, wholistic health care. Its purpose is to foster healthy Indigenous people, families and communities through traditional and contemporary health care encompassing heart, mind, body, and spirit.
